A Legacy of Wildlife Expertise

Critter Management Inc. was founded in 1994 by Joe Maffo. Originally from Uhrichsville, Ohio, Joe and his family moved to Hilton Head Island in 1982. In 1983, Joe formed Central Maintenance, Inc., specializing in home and villa repair, major renovations, and general maintenance services. After selling Central Maintenance in 1994, Joe focused on what he loved most: humane wildlife removal, founding Critter Management.

Known locally as “Alligator Joe,” Joe has gained national recognition as an alligator wrangler. Over the years, he’s invented several techniques, tools, and innovations for critter removal, trapping, and prevention – many of which are still used by the company today.

We’re proud to share that Joey Maffo, grandson of Critter Management’s founder, Joe Maffo, has officially taken over the business.

Joey has been part of this business since he could walk, learning from the best, and is committed to honoring his grandfather’s legacy while strengthening systems, improving communication, and raising the standard for service and accountability.

With Joey now at the helm, Critter Management continues to combine decades of experience, family values, and innovative solutions to keep your home safe and wildlife-free.
